Michelin Mx Nationals – Round 1 2016 – Preston Docks 6/7 March
Conditions – Wet, deep rutted sand.
The 2016 Mx Nationals race season gets underway early this year and proved to be a very tough event for everyone after the track received about 5 inches of snow on the Thursday before the event. It thawed just in time for the event to continue but made the conditions extra tough. Luckily, the weather on the Saturday and Sunday was settled so there was some good racing still to be had.
Charlie and Oliver both put in maximum effort and came away with a solid result on the whole. All groups have full lineups of 40 riders with the majority of the Nations top riders choosing to race the Michelin Mx Nationals.
Charlie started with two strong 9th places on the Saturday looking at home amongst the top six at times. Sunday didn’t start so well, being taken down in the first corner he battled hard against a field of mainly 25o 4 stroke machines to just miss out on points in 21st. He finished the last race in 13th to put himself in a creditable 12th overall and brought home the trophy for 3rd placed 125cc rider. He now has his sights set on establishing himself in the top 10.
Oliver found the conditions hard to start with on the Saturday and posted 19th and 18th finishes in the first two races. He gathered himself up ready for Sunday and pushed hard to improve and was rewarded with 16th and 12th positions. He now sits in 15th in the Big Wheeled 85cc Championship. Oliver is also keen to break into the top 10 and both boys are looking forward to round two at Landrake.
